Twice Broken: My Journey to Wholeness
Overcoming the devastating impact of domestic violence and emotional abandonment.
Twice Broken Quote of the Day
“A soul cry comes in waves, it has no words, and it cannot be comforted.”
Author’s Corner
Initially, Twice Broken: My Journey to Wholeness was nothing more than a collection of words that sat motionless on paper. In my mind, however, the words constantly swirled along with painful memories of domestic violence and abandonment.
I walked around those memories as long as I could, until one day I could no longer ignore the disruption they were causing in my life. I returned to my jumble of words, and one by one I arranged them until they said exactly what I wanted them to say. Six years after they first landed on paper, my words formed a story.
It was my story, and I called it Twice Broken. I share it now as an encouragement to those who grieve and as a reminder that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
What others are saying about Twice Broken
For any writer, let alone a new one, one of the hardest tasks is to combine intelligence with emotion. Kathleen Serenko’s story is one of ultimate triumph, not least as a writer. Readers will agree that Twice Broken deserves to be at least twice read.
Eloquent, poignant, and filled with grace…this is not a “bash the guy” book, but a tale of how the author broke free physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Hooray to Ms. Serenko for refusing to keep silent. Well well done!
This book is a must read ! I kept wishing I had it to give to a friend who was going through a divorce. It is packed full or emotions, thoughts, and feelings that are sure to be relatable to many women. Very easy to read and super hard to put down!
Excellent book — could prove invaluable if taken to heart. It shows the hard road to recovery from domestic abuse — knowing WHO is the LIGHT at the end of the tunnel, and a personal story on how to find and trust Him. I will be passing this book to friends and telling others to purchase.
A wonderful book about healing from abuse. It helped me with my healing from abuse and PTSD.
Puts into perspective the mindset of the victim during the abuse, the emotional and physical repercussions of abuse, and insight into the strength it takes to leave. This is not a book about abuse: this is a book about survival and the path it takes to get from survival to healing, healing to strength, and strength to moving on.
A must read for anyone living a never ending merry go round. The author has gracefully told her story of physical and emotional abuse, but it’s also my story and and the story of many others out there. Words cannot express or explain the thoughts, feelings, hopelessness, aloneness, rejection, and grief when one is or has lived in an abusive relationship, but Kathleen Serenko has put into this book exactly what it is to live it, end it and survive it. A powerful read from a powerful woman.
Viewing catastrophic change in a positive light is surprising and powerful. Ms. Serenko’s honest approach to her own struggle gives voice and solidarity to women struggling under similar conditions. Twice Broken will undoubtedly be a success.
Despite a very difficult subject, this book is a very easy read. The author shares her journey, emotions and thoughts openly and eloquently. It serves as an encouragement for victims trapped in domestic abuse (both mental and physical). It is also very enlightening to victim’s friends who want to help but aren’t sure what to say or do.
Even if you have not been in similar circumstances as the author you will still find strength and and wisdom when you read this insightful and poignant book. Her story spoke to me in a profound and lingering way I did not expect. I was in a dark period in my life when I read Twice Broken, and it helped me realize I was stuck in a pattern of grief. By recognizing that grief was holding me back, I was able to break free and look forward to the future with a sense of hope and optimism. Ms. Serenko’s words can help us on our own personal journeys to wholeness. A must read for all.
